Overgrowth is at 1.0. It folds four planned updates into one release.
The day is a raid
- Weight. Everything you carry weighs something. Past 70% of your pack you're Laden, past 100% you're Encumbered: no sprinting, a slow walk and loud feet.
- Containers you search. Crates, lockers, urns, reliquaries, sunken chests and root caches hidden in buttress roots. Their slots reveal one by one, slower for rarer things. Locked chests need a pry bar, or a long, loud forced opening.
- The Coffer at camp holds 60 slots with no weight limit, and crafting at camp draws from it.
- Benches. Towers, walls and packs come from the Workbench, braziers and mortars from the Fire Pit, totems and scrap work from the Tinker's Bench.
- Dying by day drops your pack as a lost satchel with a beacon. Get back to it before the horn.
- Husks roam from day 3 and hunt by sound: sprinting, a heavy pack and breaking a crate all carry.
A defence you have to think about
- Root capacity. The Heartwood can feed only so many roots. A barricade draws 1, a bow tower 3, a mortar 4, and each upgrade tier one more.
- Damage types. Pierce, blunt, fire and arc. Rotboars shrug off arrows but break under mortar shells, and Husks go up like kindling.
- Elite Blight from night 5 on Warden, and from night 3 the packs lean on the rift your towers cover least. The game tells you which side they're testing.
A story in ten nights
- Twelve torn pages from a 1931 expedition are scattered through the forest. Two of them are maps.
- Three seals in the temple, the shrine and the ruins. Set a relic in one and its rift sleeps for two nights.
- Grafts for your towers, Hollis's radio that calls supply drops at noon, and the Rot, dying ground that spreads from the rifts after night 5.
- The Rot Mother owns night 10, and the rescue plane comes at first light: fly out, or stay with the Heartwood.
The rest
Rebind any key, captions for the sounds that matter, colour-blind outlines for the Blight, partial gamepad support, twenty achievements, a daily vigil that's the same world for everyone, and a capture mode on F8. The models download at half the size.
1.0.1: Lighter Loads
Everything weighs about half as much (a log is 1.5 kg, was 4) and every pack carries more, so a full day's foraging fits before you're encumbered. Smashing a crate with the machete now spills its loot on the ground instead of deleting it.
